About me
Sarah Martin is a Senior Instructional Designer and Writer for Reading Universe, where she applies her deep expertise in literacy to create high-quality educational resources. Her career in education began in the classroom, where she gained diverse experience teaching kindergarten, 2nd, 5th, and 6th grades.
Throughout her professional journey, Sarah Martin has held significant leadership and coaching roles. She served as an Early Childhood Instructional Coach and the Assistant Director of Literacy and Humanities for the New Mexico Public Education Department (NM PED). During her tenure in New Mexico, she spearheaded the statewide structured literacy initiative and became a local facilitator for LETRS 3rd Edition and LETRS-Early Childhood. Her experience extends to the private sector, where she worked for Lexia Learning to support large-scale district and state implementations of literacy professional learning. Most recently, she operated as a literacy consultant, helping organizations and schools translate Science of Reading research into actionable classroom practices.
Sarah Martin holds an undergraduate degree in Elementary Education from Westfield State University, a Master’s degree as a Reading Specialist from the University of Virginia, and a Doctorate in Reading Science from Mount St. Joseph University. Her research is focused on early childhood education, spelling, and support for multilingual learners. She currently resides in central Missouri with her husband, two children, and their goldendoodle.
