About me
Lauren Spenceley is the Secondary English Language Arts Specialist at the Arizona Department of Education, where she oversees standards implementation, literacy leadership, and professional development for grades 6–12. With over 14 years of experience as a secondary ELA teacher, she is a dedicated advocate for the unique literacy needs of adolescent learners.
Throughout her career, Lauren Spenceley has been a driving force for systemic literacy improvement. She has led district-level curriculum design, facilitated educator training, and developed parent literacy programs to bridge the gap between school and home. Her commitment to the field led her to found the Arizona Adolescent Literacy Network, and she continues to shape regional policy and practice as a member of the Arizona English Teachers’ Association board. Her work focuses on empowering educators through the integration of structured and disciplinary literacy, ensuring that secondary teachers are equipped to support reading proficiency across all subject areas.
Lauren is currently pursuing a Ph.D. in Literacy Studies from Middle Tennessee State University. Her mission is to champion the diverse reading needs of older students while fostering a lifelong love of literacy through evidence-based practices and visionary leadership.
