Dr. Linda Cavazos is the Executive Director of ELLAS Consulting (English Learner Leadership Advocacy Support). With over 30 years of experience in education, she is a leading expert in supporting the needs of English Learners and culturally and linguistically diverse learners.
Throughout her career, Dr. Linda Cavazos has provided capacity building, technical assistance, and coaching at the national, state, regional, and local levels. She specializes in preparing teachers to deliver literacy instruction and academic interventions to emergent bilinguals and culturally and linguistically diverse students with learning difficulties or disabilities. For the past six years, she has served as a Science of Reading literacy and biliteracy consultant for the New Mexico Public Education Department (NM PED), providing vital guidance on Structured Literacy for English Learners and the Science of Reading policy and practice. She is the creator of the Structured Literacy for Diverse Learners (K-12) Canvas modules for NM PED. Her extensive research examines the intersection of English Learner programs, multi-tiered systems of support, special education, specially designed instruction, and school turnaround to improve student achievement. She holds a doctorate in multicultural education.
As a dedicated advocate for linguistic diversity, she continues to influence educational policy and classroom practice through her consultancy and her ongoing research into inclusive instructional models.
